Indian Port Workers, in thousands numbers,to go on STRIKES….!!! Delayed Shipments.

27th August, 2024. Vizag:       More than 20,000 of Port Worker’s Across the major ports of India, are immediately to go to STRIKES  on Demand of immediate  settlement of Pay revisions & Pension Benefits. Worker’s Unions of  Indian Ports reported on Tuesday.  The Strikes go on from Wednesday morning. 

The STRIKES could cause of Delay Shipments and back up of various cargos at various ports. Pushing up freight costs, &  exacerbating  the existing congestions of containers at  Asian, South-asian & European  Ports. 

The negotiations in between the workers unions & government are now in deadlock, as reported that, Union’s demands 10.6%, where as government of India, departments of ports wants to negotiate upto 6%. The shipping unions met on Tuesday, to union shipping minister, but ministry if shipping formed a bipartrat committee in March 2021,where workers unions submitted theirs demands six months later, till not decided. 

Although, the negotiations committee in between ports workers unions and the govt, met 7th times,  but failed to fulfilled the demands. The ports workers unions met this month in a meeting at Toothicorin, the port city, of southern India, in state of Tamil Nadu. 

The Ports in India, such as, Vishakhapattanam, Cochin, Chennai, Mumbai has a combined cargo handling capacity of 1.62 billions Ton annually, will expected into a ‘hit’ by the Strikes. 

Seeing the timings of this strikes, the Experts says, it’s a crucial & difficult timings,  where exporters now presently struggling to meet the Shipping Schedules  for coming Christmas Season. So this Strikes will hampers the exports crucially in this coming Festival Seasons Also, as well as Markets.
