Researchers Document, A huge drop of African elephants in a half century.

African Elephants are World’s Largest Land animals, the remarkable mammals that are very intelligent and social.Tjey also are in Perils… Fresh evidence comes on studies, that documents alarming population declines numerous sites accross the Continent, over about a half century.

Researchers unveiled on Monday that, the status of two African elephants species, – one is Savanna, and other – forest elephants, – using data on population surveys on Elephants conducted on 475 sites on 37 number of Countries, from 1964 to 2016.The Savanna type of elephants population felt by over 74% on average on survey sites,  following 77% of decreased on average of forest elephants by population.

“A lot of the lost population  wouldn’t comeback , and many low density population of elephants face continued pressures. We likely will lose more population of elephants in going forwards”- said George Wittemyer, a Colorado State University professor of wildlife conservation and chairman of scientific board of the conservation group save the Elephants, who helped about the studies in publish journal proceedings of national academy of science.

People killing elephants for their tusks,which are sold illegally on an international black market driven mostly  by ivory demand in china and other parts of Asia.

” We have lost a number of population of elephants accross many countries, but in northern  region of Africa, as for example in Mali, Chad, Nigeria – has been in a hard heat. High pressure and limited protection culminated the population of elephants “. He told.

But in southern region of Africa, there are some rise by 42% in population of elephants in surveys sites.

” We have seen a thin success of protection in a number of countries in southern region of Africa,in growth of elephants population in Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia.”- the researcher Wittemyer said. He also said that- “The loss of Large Mammals is a significant ecological issue for African Continent and the Plannet.
